How a 70 Year Old Speech Can Help You Win!

On October 29, 1941 the United Kingdom Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, visited Harrow School. He stood before the student body and concluded his life changing speech with the following words.

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in…”

This weekend I watched an overmatched volleyball team get spanked in the first two games. They were half a step behind. Out of position on every block. And late on every spike.

Before the 3rd game the coaches had a long meeting away from the players. And the players had a long meeting away from the coaches.

I watched each meeting closely. With about 40 seconds remaining before the start of the 3rd game, the two meetings joined into one.

Immediately there was a tremendous SHIFT in the energy on the court.

I looked at my wife with a big smile and said, “They are gonna come back and win.”

She wasn’t so sure. Who could blame her? After what we just watched the odds were probably a 1000 to 1 they were going to comeback.

Yet, there was a different team on the court. No they didn’t bring in the JV. It was just the mental attitude had shifted.

Game 3 started with a 3-0 run for our team. Then there was an exchange of points and finally the underdogs (our team) put the game away.

Game 4 was almost identical to game 3. Towards the middle of Game 4 the crowd started to take notice and get into the game. And the team began feeding off the crowd. They closed out the game with a 3-0 run. There we were tied 2 games a piece.

Before Game 5 another long meeting took place. And again I sensed an energy shift. This time the opponent’s energy had changed. They started out 3-0. Our team was behind and the crowd was deflated.

But the players and coaches didn’t let up. You could see in their eyes, their posture, and their attitude that it wasn’t over until the fat lady sings.

They never panicked. They never gave in!

Point by point each player did their job. They made sure they played the game until the final whistle blew. And when it was all over they pulled out an amazing come from behind victory!

It was amazing to experience.

Their victory was a testament to the power of a strong vision, a passion to play each and every point, and a deep desire to “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in…”

I hope you enjoyed this story and you use this lesson to build yourself a big, powerful goal that you want to achieve.

Best,

Coach Nolan

How to Put Yourself in THE ZONE

Tonight I watched a young man (15 year old, Sophmore), get his first crack at "playing" varsity football. We'll call him Aaron, well because Aaron is his name.

Aaron's a superb soccer player the doubles in the fall as a field goal and place kicker. Some have said he's a natural.

But I believe his work ethic, focus, confidence, and mental toughness are all pieces of the puzzle that caused him to get pulled up to Varsity as a back up kicker 6 games ago.

Tonight he stepped up mentally and was prepared to step into the game when the head coach called on him.

After tonights game his stats look like this:

Touchback
Missed P.A.T.
False start kickoff
Kick off returned 15 yards

I could see and feel, in his mind this was a subpar performance.

After the game I caught up with Aaron to find out his mental state after his performance.

The first words out of his mouth were, "Did you see my P.A.T.? I wish I could take that back!!"

I decided this was a good opportunity to help him leapfrog his current mental position. So I encouraged him to "Let it go mentally" and then asked him two questions:

1. Where was your mistake?
He said, "I was thinking about it!"

2. What do you do when you play soccer?
With a smile on his face He said, "I JUST PLAY!"

He got it... There's no reason to think about it in a game situation. All you do is "JUST PLAY!"

One of the secrets to success is remembering that thinking, contemplating, analyzing mistakes are important to achieving success. But they should be done at home, in the car, while showering, before bed, at practice - but NEVER in the game.

Mental rehearsal and evaluating mistakes are to be done pre-game and post game.

Game time is only about Doing. Acting. Execution. Allowing the work you put in at practice to flow through you.

Game time is your opportunity to breathe deeply, remember the goals you've already set, focus on the end result. Then Let it Go! Breathe Deeply! Then Go Do IT.

This my friend is the fastest and most effective way to achieve success. And it's a major portion of the mental method I teach in my Gold Medal Training Program.

Add in the Zen breathing exercises I teach and you will find yourself centered, relaxed and focused on your goals.

You'll be in the zone!

If you want the greatest opportunity to achieve your goals and perform at your highest potential then I strongly urge you to follow the system I laid out in this report. I also urge you to learn the zen breathing techniques I teach in my Gold Medal Training Program.

That way you can put yourself in the ZONE on command.

Go get em!
